Edge the Garden, Raised the Garden Beds

November 30, 2009

Gardens look always beautiful when they are maintained well. Therefore, garden edging is necessary. Garden edging is nothing but way to stop lawn grass from creating extra weeds and gives a clean, attractive look to your gardens. Garden edging separates the flower bed, shrub bed or groundcover area from lawn grass and keep grass out of the planting bed.

The raised garden beds are a garden that is built on top of your native soil, sometimes incorporating native soil, sometimes not. Raised garden beds are the saviors of gardeners with poor soil. The idea of a raised bed is that instead of battling against poor soil conditions, you will build an above ground, where you have absolute control over the soil texture and ingredients.

Contained raised beds are great for vegetable and herb gardens, as well as flower gardens. Fruits, such as strawberries, grapes, blueberries, and raspberries, also grow very well in a contained raised bed. To construct your raised bed wood is a very popular choice, as it is easy to work with and also cost effective. Concrete blocks, natural stone, or brick are also good options, but they are not as much as cost effective as wood. Some gardeners simply place bales of hay or straw in whatever configuration they want and then fill it with good soil and compost and then plant it up.

At last, we can candidly say that both water garden and raised garden beds are the amazing way to beautify our natural surroundings. Both are equally important to balance our ecosystem. While water garden brings peace and calmness, at the same time the raised garden beds enhances the fertility of the land and helps us to grow more vegetable and herb gardens. Hence, these both are playing an important role balancing our natural system.
